What is a citation?
A citation is how you give credit for an idea. You are telling your reader where you found something.

If you do not give credit you are plagiarizing!

So how do I cite?
There are many forms of citation. For now, all you need to do is put the author's last name and the page number in parentheses at the end of the sentence with the information. For example:
- Mayan pyramids can be found in Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala (Hernandez 35).
- Aztec human sacrifice was done to appease the gods (Smith 12).
WhaT ABOUT A WORKS CITED?
A works cited is a page at the end of your essay where you list out the full information for the source, not just the last name and page number. For this research essay you will not be required to make a works cited because you no longer have access to the books.

You can NOT copy whole paragraphs, or multiple sentences (three or more sentences is a lot to include)! Even if you include a citation, and quotation marks, this bad form.
