What is a civilization?
A civilization is a society that is advanced enough to live peacefully and work together. Signs that a society is a civilization include having religion, arts, farming, and structured government.
Most people today live in civilizations. They live in cities and towns, pay taxes, go to schools, use hospitals, and visit museums and parks. Very few people live alone, or in small groups.

WHAT is a GEOGRAPHICAL Feature?
Geography is the study of the Earth's surface, climates, and countries. Geographical features, are things like weather, climate, rivers, oceans, fertile land, and mountains.

Examine the maps below. The first is of Ancient Mesopotamia, and the second is Ancient Egypt. Try comparing Mesopotamia and Egypt to modern-day Los Angeles and San Francisco. What geographical features do they all have in common?
